[ He hasn't gone anywhere. In fact, he hasn't exactly moved, or eaten, or spoken, since he has yet to hear what he's wishing to hear. Lucas sits against the wall wrapped in a coat, staring at a screen that he's managed to make show all of the Twilight films on repeat (yes, seriously). ]

[for a brief moment, he looks ready to kill something. Then he produces a glass of orange juice, and sets it before Lucas.]

Drink this. He hasn't talked to you?

[surface_level]

[ Lucas turns his head away from the drink with a look of intense nausea, gathering his coat tighter around himself. ]

No.

[ After a moment of considering the tone of that question. ] You have seen him.

He promised me he would talk to you.

[surface_level]

[ When it comes down to it, Lucas is still young and still prone to the limits of human exhaustion. His instinctive interpretation of that statement hits him hard and he stares at Harvestman for a moment before sinking his head down onto his folded arms and beginning to shake with the muted, tortured sounds of sobs he tries to bite back halfway through. ]

Jesus Christ.

[He crouches down and grabs Lucas shoulders - gently, he doesn't know how the man reacts to touch - trying to hold him steady.]

Lucas, listen to me, alright? He ain't doing it 'cause he hates you, he ain't doing it on purpose. He can't help it. He gets depressed and he goes off and does Lord knows what. You need to rest, okay? You need to eat and you need to sleep.

[surface_level]

[ Normally much jumpier, he permits the touch limply and looks up to Harvestman as if pleading with him, words coming out faster than usual. ]

I know this. I understand, it is his way, he wishes for me to give this freedom, to allow him to destruct. Is this why I am his, because I do not push.

I wish to. Often. If it would help. I would give everything, to help. He is worth all of this and more.

I know. I know, I really do.

[surface_level]

I love him. He does not like for me to tell him how I love him, or of my worries. So I do not speak.

Don't do this to yourself, okay? We'll talk to him. We have to talk to him, he can't keep doing this.

He will not come to me.

We can go to him.

I do not know what I could say that will not cause him to loathe me.

Then I'll talk to him. You can just be there to support him.

[ He begins to push himself up against the wall. ]

Do you think this will help him?

...I don't know. I really don't. I just can't keep watching him drown.

I will help in any way that I can.

I'll talk to him. But you have to let him know he's hurting you, or he won't change anything.

It is not because of my pain that he should change.
